Malcolm Eugene is playing like he did in this 2010 highlight reel.
Pick up a college football magazine, ANY college football magazine, and the thing that strikes you other than they come up way too early is the recurring theme throughout.
"They will be hurt by the graduation of _____, at quarterback, ______ at running back and ______ at linebacker.
Almost none of the magazines will mention that a team MIGHT improve at the position where a starter left.
Yet I see that happening at Temple in AT LEAST five positions from the way it was at start of the 2011 season:

Chris Coyer

Sean Boyle
CENTER _ John Palumbo, the 2011 starter, was hobbled by injuries throughout his final season. Sean Boyle, a 2009 starter, is back and more healthy than ever. A lot of people around the Edberg-Olson Complex believe Boyle is a better center than Palumbo was and Palumbo was very, very good.
Plus, it's only logical that if Boyle can start over Palumbo in the opening game fo the 2009 season, he's better than Palumbo now, too. Palumbo was here in 2009 as well.
FREE SAFETY _ Kevin Kroboth was a three-year starter and an outstanding player for the Owls, but he was a heady guy who didn't necessarily make "talent" plays like intercept the ball and take it to the house. Incoming freshman Nate Smith is such a player, as is current first-teamer Vaughn Carraway. So is developing redshirt sophomore Brian Burns. Unless something unforseen happens, like Kevin Newsome switching over the defense in August, I see both of those guys being able to make all the cover plays Kroboth was able to make and also be able to pick off a pass or two and go to the house. If I had to predict one "true" freshman starter, it would be Nate Smith. Archbishop Wood is a fine academic school and has prepared Smith for the rigors of Temple. Wood doesn't produce writers the quality of, say, Archbishop Ryan or Father Judge, but recently has done a much better job of producing BCS football talent than the two mentioned schools.

Nate D. Smith
SLOT RECEIVER _ Joey Jones was a dependable slot receiver for the last couple of years, but Jones lost a lot of his explosiveness when he tore his Achilles tendon in his freshman year. Jalen Fitzpatrick has all of Jones' dependability and adds a lot more explosive element. Fitzpatrick is a special talent, who can play all over the field. He'll be a major upgrade over Jones, who I liked very much.

Nate Smith, the free safety
This is how good programs become better and it appears Temple's recruiting is so back-loaded (talent level in subsequent years) that in most cases better players are coming in to replace the ones who leave.
That's consoling to know after losing three players to the NFL draft and eight more to free agent contracts.

Excellent clip, ME looks like a man playing against boys. Having a good size, dependable slot receiver in addition to MB, CC, JF is going to mean a lot of weapons to account for.
great insight and unique perspective..this will be an interesting season..the Big East does not have a clear-cut run away top 10 team, 80% all intra-league games will be highly competitive and decided in the 4th quarter..can we stay in black on turnover margin, avoid key injuries, and go 3-1 in non-conference play? yes to all will mean a top twenty-five ranking, great bowl game, and an huge increase in our fan base...wow, this is what being in the BCS is all about - an opportunity for a rendezvous with destiny!
Thanks, it's all about the injuries but you can say that for every BE team.
We can afford to lose a couple of starters on the defensive side of the ball, because the depth is significant and there is not much of a dropoff between the first and second units.
Kicker?
No.
QB and TB?
Not as it stands now.
Rutgers, on the other hand, can afford an injury to its first-team quarterback because both its first and second team QBs are average AT BEST.
Maybe Boston College has a punter we can use to relieve McManus of at least those duties. :)
Collegefootballnews.com just came out with rankings for every team and it was posted on ESPN. I don't know what they are smoking but they placed Temple at #101 with a 3-9 record. Clearly they didnt even look at who we play this year, or they would have realized we play 11 games, NOT 12. Hate on haters. We will do the talkin on the field come fall.
Agreed.
Do you think college football news knows about Sean Boyle, Malcolm Eugene, the two Nate Smiths, Jalen Fitzpatrick and Alex Jackson?
Or the potential impact guys like Kevin Newsome, Jamie Gilmore, Khalif Herbin, Brandon Shippen, Adbul Smith, etc., can have right away?
I doubt it very seriously.
In six months, CFN will probably ask where these guys came from ...
Chuck Heater has enough defensive talent left to keep us in every game and I'm fairly confident that Chris Coyer and company are going to point enough points on the board to make that record a lot closer to nine wins than three wins.
I'm going by memory but CFN had TU ranked in the 70's 2011 preseason and in the 30's post season. A few weeks later they have TU in the 90's now the 100's preseason, behind Army. Truth is we need to win to get respect. The past may haunt this team for a while yet.
great article from the link below:

was tempted to do a find / replace with commissioner and university president of a football playing BCS school
see no reason why Temple can't enjoy the $$ like Pitt and PSU..., university presidents have become economic pillars in our society through edowments and football. readily apparent the BE presidents surveyed the landscape and asked, "why not us?"...., exciting times for TU Football
Looked at the schedule again today .... gonna be awesome. Love the schedule and that our wait is over. Can not wait till Rutgers, Pitt, MD, well pretty much all of them...
great link, Northern Va. Owl. I'll try to make it clickable here. Just think that it wasn't all that long ago that both Bradshaw and Ann Weaver Hart were in Dallas for a Conference USA meeting and now we're in the Big East and there is no powerhouse team like West Virginia in it. There is a path to the championship here that is wide open. I hope being Temple TUFF makes the difference.

Bernard signs his $2.65mil contract with a $555K signing bonus. Niiiiice
that's a nice chunk of change. To think that his agent gets the standard 10 percent. I'm in the wrong business. (:
